In 1995 my wife and I visited the Canadian Rockies. It was my first time experiencing such grandeur and it was everything I’d read about and more. Since that time I’ve gone back a few times and am never disappointed.
So I wrote a piece expressing my gratitude for those wonders of nature and my chances to be in their presence. As I wrote it I thought it would be the standard large scale composition with orchestral passages indicating the sheer scope of mountains. But that is not what I ended with.
While I was at a place called Moraine Lake I experienced a moment of humility that has stayed with me ever since. My smallness as contrasted to the monuments to geological time is the sense that came across I composed. I hope it evokes something similar in you, dear listener.
The photos in this video are from mountains around the world.
